Single Section Car Door/Gates

single-section-car-gate

Single section car doors/gates are used when there is ample overhead height in the hoistway. Single section car doors/gates consist of a single counterweighted panel and can be either manually or power operated.

Required overhead height, measured from the top landing sill to the nearest overhead obstruction, for a standard 6 ft. (1830mm) high car door/gate is equal to the landing door opening height plus 6 ft 1 in. (1855 mm). Single section car doors/gates require a 4.5 in. (114mm) car setback.

When there is insufficient overhead height, use a two-section car door/gate.

Single Section Full Height Car Door

Full height car doors are suited for freight elevators authorized to carry passengers. Single section full height car doors are used when there is ample overhead height in the hoistway. Single section car doors consist of a single counterweighted panel and can be either manually or power operated.

Required overhead height, measured from the top landing sill to the nearest overhead obstruction, for single section full height car doors equals two times the landing door opening height plus 14 in. (356 mm). Single section car doors require a 6.5 in (114mm) car setback.

When there is insufficient overhead height, use a two-section full height car door.

Two Section Car Door/Gates

Two section car doors/gates are used when overhead height in the hoistway is limited. A two-section car door/gate consists of two counterweighted panels of different heights and can be either manually or power operated.

Required overhead height, measured from the top landing sill to the nearest overhead obstruction, for a standard 6 ft (1839mm) high car door/gate is equal 1.5 times the landing door opening height plus 6 in. (150mm). Two-section 6 ft. (1839 mm) high car doors/gates require a 6.5 in (165mm) car setback.

When there is insufficient overhead for a two-section car door/gate, use a differential car door/gate.

Two Section Full Height Car Door

Full height car doors are suited for freight elevators authorized to carry passengers. Two-section full height car doors are used when overhead height in the hoistway is limited. A two-section full height car door consists of two counterweighted panels of equal heights and can be either manually or power operated.

Required overhead height, measured from the top landing sill to the nearest overhead obstruction, for full height two-section car doors equals 1.5 times the landing door opening height plus 13 in. (406mm). Two-section full height car doors require a 7.5 in. (190mm) car setback.

When there is insufficient overhead for a two-section car door, use a three-section full height car door.

Differential Car Door/Gate

Differential car doors/gates are used when overhead is severely limited. Differential car doors/gates are 6 ft. (1830mm) high and consist of two equal height counteweighted panels and can be either manually or power operated.

Required overhead height, measured from the top landing sill to the nearest overhead obstruction, for a 6 ft. (1839mm) high differential door/gate is equal to the landing door opening height plus 3 ft 3 in. (1000mm). Differential car doors/gates 6 ft. (1839 mm) high require a 7.5 in. (191mm) car setback.

Three Section Full Height Car Door

Full height car doors are suited for freight elevators authorized to carry passengers. Three section full height car doors are used when overhead height in the hoistway is extremely limited. A three-section full height car door consists of three counterweighted panels of equal heights and can be either manually or power operated.

Required overhead height, measured from the top landing sill to the nearest overhead obstruction, for full height three-section car doors equals 1.33 times the landing door opening height plus 13 in. (406mm). Three-section full height car doors require a 9 in. (229mm) car setback.
